Day 7 - Upside Down

I choose this photo because it was the catalyst for me to change the way I do photography. Two years ago I went to a sports photography workshop in Colorado, I'd been taking a lot of photos at high school sporting events and felt I was getting pretty good at it. Boy was I wrong! I submitted this photo for critique the first day, and “real photographers” were brutally honest. Up til now I rarely looked at backgrounds, better angles, correct f-stop, tighter focus, the list could go on...
I had to admit I knew very little about my camera's capabilities, because I never used half the settings, knew nothing about the relationship of shutter speed, f-stop, iso....in other words my photography world had been “turned upside down”. Today looking back and I'm grateful for that day and this photo. I've had many photographer mentors help me along the way since and will continue to strive to become a better “real photographer”.
I have to admit I still occasionally get lens envy, and want better, newer, fancier equipment, but because of this photo and the Summit Sports Photography workshop, I understand the best piece of equipment is the thought process before the shutter is clicked.
