Day 5 - Today's photo prompt is "Found", so as I prepared to get my equipment ready to brave the harsh sub zero temperatures outside I rummaged through a drawer looking for a body cap for my DSLR (camera) and found this old photo. Hadn't seen it in quite a while. What struck me so dramatically was the real serendipity of this "find"; let me explain. This is an old photo of my mother (she's the tallest one) and three of her friends during World War II, they were all radar operators in the Royal Air Force during the war in Dover, England. Why did I find it today? Well today is my mom's birthday, she was born January 5, 1923 in London; she turns 91 today. Talk about the power of a photograph!
I don't think the serendipity stops there though, had it not been for the war, my parents would never have met. My dad was a G.I. preparing for the invasion in 1944 when they married in April of that year. The war ended in 1945, dad came home and mom followed him on a war bride ship in early 1946. They raised 3 sons, all went into education. Their marriage lasted until 2006 when my father passed away a week short of their 62nd anniversary. Happy Birthday Mom! I'm glad I found this photo today, but way more happy dad found you!
